Research Assistant (Part-Time / Contract)
Training of Trainers (TOT) for Batik Training Crew

About the project

This project trains 20 members of a batik community in Northern Peninsular Malaysia to become certified batik trainers. Once certified, they will run their own training sessions for schools, agencies and the wider public — turning a craft skill into a sustainable source of income for the community. The project is funded under the Ministry of Higher Education’s Dana Inovasi Sosial (DIS) 2026 scheme and delivered in partnership with Ayayu Sdn. Bhd.

About the role

We are hiring one Research Assistant to support the project across three areas:

Research — administer pre- and post-training questionnaires, transcribe interview recordings, and prepare the final project report.

Administration — obtain quotations for training venues and materials, coordinate communication with the 20 community participants, and compile the training module.

Promotion — build the project’s presence on social media and approach third parties, including government agencies and private organisations, to sign up for batik educational activities run by the community.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field (minimum qualification)
• Willing to carry out fieldwork in Northern Peninsular Malaysia
• Competent in Microsoft Office and report writing
• Comfortable working with community members and communicating in both Bahasa Malaysia and English
• Prior research assistant experience is an advantage but not essential — relevant coursework or project experience will be considered
